She attended Carleton College, where she earned an A.B. in Biology and took no English or writing courses at all. Following graduation, she earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota and worked for a number of years as a financial analyst and accountant. She married James Wrede in ; they divorced in She currently lives in Minneapolis with her cat, Karma.

    Patricia Collins Wrede (;[1] born March 27, ) is an American author of fantasy literature.[2] She is known for her Enchanted Forest Chronicles series for young adults, which was voted number 84 in NPR's Best-Ever Teen Novels list.[3]

    Wrede graduated from Carleton College in with a BA in biology and obtained an MBA from the University of Minnesota in [2] She finished her first book in while working as an accountant and financial analyst.[2][4] She was a founding member of The Scribblies, along with Pamela Dean, Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Steven Brust and Nate Bucklin, in January , "to which [she] belonged for five extremely productive years."[2] She sold her first book to Ace in April and it was published in In the fall of , Wrede met Lillian Stewart Carl, who introduced her to Lois McMaster Bujold.
