Patricia Collins Wrede was born March 27, , in Chicago. She and her siblings (she is the eldest of five) grew up in the Chicago suburbs. She attended Carleton College, where she earned an A.B. in Biology and took no English or writing courses at all. Following graduation, she earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota and worked for a number of years as a financial analyst and accountant. She married James Wrede in ; they divorced in She currently lives in Minneapolis with her cat, Karma.

Patricia Collins Wrede (;[1] born March 27, ) is an American author of fantasy literature.[2] She is known for her Enchanted Forest Chronicles series for young adults, which was voted number 84 in NPR's Best-Ever Teen Novels list.[3]
Career
[edit]Wrede graduated from Carleton College in with a BA in biology and obtained an MBA from the University of Minnesota in [2] She finished her first book in while working as an accountant and financial analyst.[2][4] She was a founding member of The Scribblies, along with Pamela Dean, Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Steven Brust and Nate Bucklin, in January , "to which [she] belonged for five extremely productive years."[2] She sold her first book to Ace in April and it was published in In the fall of , Wrede met Lillian Stewart Carl, who introduced her to Lois McMaster Bujold. In , shortly before her fifth book was published, she became a full-time writer.[2] She is a member of the Liavek shared-world anthology.
